Full Job Description

This is a Trust Doctor (non-training) Level 2 post equivalent to ST3 and above.

Duties include -

Working on AMU - continuous assessment and review of new admissions and unstable patients.

SSW - performing ward rounds, procedures, assisting junior team members, communication with patients / family.

SDEC - reviewing new patients and returns.

AMU / 'HOT' clinic - reviews after investigations / discharge.

Participate in the General (Internal) Medicine on call rota.

Contributing to the clinical governance - audit, service improvement projects, teaching rota.

To participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) and maintain a portfolio for revalidation.

Use specialty session to develop skills according to need - one four-hour session given per week (opportunities include medical high dependency / stroke).

Complete admin work / letters from clinical activity.

Maintain mandatory training.

Normal Working day consists of covering the unit from either 0900 to 1700 when working in The Acute Medicine Department and 0800-1700 when working within Same Day Emergency Care.

The post holder will be required to participate in the General (Internal) Medicine on-call rota and will be paid accordingly.

Working collaboratively with colleagues to further develop and improve the service.

Undertake duties on the ward, in the outpatient clinics and operating theatres.

Assist the Consultant and Registrar in Theatre and undertaking minor surgical procedures under the supervision of either the Consultant or Registrar.

Progress monitoring of patients within the relevant Department

Requesting with understanding patient investigations with decision support for invasive testing or device assessment.

Preparation, preferably starting in advance, of electronic discharge and TTO drug summaries.

Showing responsibility for learning in all necessary areas for this post, participating in educational activities.

Taking responsibility for organising timely appraisal and assessments with consultants for portfolio
