Full Job Description

  • Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the centre of everything we do.

  • Develop personal ability in technical matters, mainly preparing plans and documents using various software packages.

  • Be part of a flexible project team and assist engineering and technical staff on projects.

  • Assist to ensure that the Consultancy acts on a commercial basis and adapts itself to compete effectively.

  • Be fully committed to satisfy the client's needs.

  • Satisfy the requirements of health and safety and environmental legislation.


  • Responsibility for functions

  • develop and maintain current information relating to:


  • a)the current best practices involving design

    b)technical standards and developments (including computer systems currently used)

    c)professional and statutory responsibilities (including e.g. those under the Health and Safety in the Workplace Act 1974, Wildlife and Countryside Act 1982, Habitat Regulations 1994 and appropriate Regulations e.g. CDM Regulations) and their related use for the work and duties undertaken.
  • ensure that the Consultancy meets with the Council's and the Directorate's requirements.

  • return staff diary cards to the administrative office on the Monday of the following week.

  • the post-holder will be expected to be aware of Health and Safety requirements and co-operate with the Directorate's Health and Safety and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure that the Unit complies with the relevant requirements., Develop and maintain a practical and professional relationship with clients, such as the Directorate's other services, the Area offices, the Welsh Assembly Government and other Directorates and Authorities.

  • Assist engineering and technical staff to complete projects including shouldering a variety of technical and administrative duties within the design office commensurate with the training, experience and competency of the post holder.

  • Assist to complete Inspection and Assessment work and Maintaining the Highways Infrastructure.

  • Report to, and take instruction from senior staff regularly and as required in order to ensure that the work progresses accordingly.

  • Operate computer and software systems.

  • Other relevant administrative duties which correspond with the post.

  • This is an indicative list only. The post-holder will be expected to have a role in the process of managing and monitoring performance in accordance with the requirements of the post and undertake any other duties relevant to the nature and scale of the post at the request of the Head of Service/Manager or the Strategic Director.

  • Ensure compliance with workplace Health and Safety regulations in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and the Council's Health and Safety Policy.

  • Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary and responsibility level of the job.

  • Responsible for reporting any concern or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.

  • It will be necessary to work outside office hours when Public Inquiries, consultations, exhibitions, Council meetings etc. are held.

    Minimum Maths/Welsh/English - GSCE., ONC or equivalent in Built Environment., Able to follow a conversation or discussion through the medium of Welsh and English on a professional level and discuss general day to day topics in the field in order to present information and express opinions., Able to understand standard written Welsh and English; both formal and informal., Present written information confidently by letter, more detailed and technical report formats, and respond to written requests conveying information, ideas and opinion in Welsh and English (help is available to check the work).

    Gwynedd Council operates internally through the medium of Welsh, and offers all its services bilingually. The applicant will be required to reach the linguistic level noted as one of the essential skills in the Person Specification.
