Full Job Description

The Joint ICT Strategy & Architecture team has a vacancy for a solutions architect in a role that will primarily support the modernisation of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police infrastructure and systems. This is an excellent career opportunity to work with engineers and architects to design solutions across a wide range of on premises and cloud technologies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the implementation of innovative cloud and on-premises solutions. This role involves working closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into effective IT solutions and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the development of a new working model within the team, with a view to enhancing delivery and providing increased access to new technology through a more hands-on and collaborative approach to design and deployment.,

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and translate business needs into technology solutions. Work collaboratively within the team, across the force and wider policing, and with external vendors and deployment partners to ensure successful solution delivery.

  • Communication: Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Design Methodology: Design and support the implementation of cloud and on premises policing systems. Utilise formal design methodologies, including design diagrams and narrative descriptions.

  • Subject Matter Expertise: Provide technical expertise and guidance within project and business-as-usual workstreams.

  • Well-Architected Designs: Ensure the cost efficiency, security by design, scalability, and reliability of the implemented solutions.

  • Certification Expertise: Formal Microsoft certifications would be beneficial but training and development will be available to the right candidate.

  • Strategy & Innovation: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies, keeping Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and Thames Valley Police at the forefront of technological advancements. Utilise this industry knowledge to feed into architectural strategy and to support Senior Architects in the development of technical strategies.

  • Infrastructure Technologies: Demonstrate a breadth of skills and expertise, or ability to learn modern cloud and traditional on premises technologies including, for example: Microsoft 365; Microsoft Azure; LAN, SD-WAN, WiFi and Cloud Connectivity; On-Premises Virtualisation, Compute and Enterprise Storage; End User Compute (Windows 11, Android, Microsoft Endpoint Manager, Autopilot etc).

    Vetting. All posts require a level of Police Vetting as per the National Vetting Code of Practice. The residency requirement is necessary to enable all applicants to be checked in an equitable manner. Thames Valley Police will allow applicants to apply who do not necessarily reach the criteria as long as they have proven UK residency and supporting evidence where necessary.
