Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service has a fantastic opportunity available for a Group Manager - Operational Risk and Alignment to join our team based at Service Headquarters on a temporary contract for up to 6 months.

About the Group Manager - Operational Risk and Alignment role:

Key responsibilities of our Group Manager - Operational Risk and Alignment will include:

  • Lead and manage the Operational Risk and Alignment Team covering Devon & Somerset

  • Lead, oversee and deliver on our Service Delivery Operational Risk Alignment Plan

  • Ensure we carry out and undertake all our statutory responsibilities related to Risk under the Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004

  • Support and deliver against our Community Risk Management Plan (CRMP) and the organisational vision and priorities

  • Support in delivery of the Service Delivery Plan by ensuring consistent and effective communication with all staff and external partners through the delivery of key strategic projects


  • From 1 April, we are introducing development rates of pay for any new individuals moving into a development or an acting-up role. These pay rates are set out by the National Joint Council., Applications are invited from existing suitably experienced and qualified Station Managers and Group Managers. Eligible applicants will need to meet the following criteria as a minimum:
  • Be a competent Station Manager

  • If applying for a promotion, or for On-Call staff, have been successful at a Leading Others assessment centre or an ADC to be eligible.

  • Able to demonstrate/evidence significant leadership experience

  • Not subject to formal performance improvement actions, nor have any live disciplinary sanctions

  • Conditioned to the Flexi Duty Rota

  • Discussed the opportunity with your Line Manager.

  • ICS Level 3 is desirable but not essential
