As the Director of Cyber Defence, you will play a critical role in safeguarding BGUK's digital assets, ensuring resilience against cyber threats, and enhancing our overall security posture. You'll lead a talented team, collaborate with external partners, and drive strategic initiatives to protect our organization.

How you'll help us make health happen:

  • Be the main point of escalation for operational security issues, overseeing and managing operational security incidents and events, minimising any impact.

  • Deliver information security monitoring, threat analysis, threat hunting, vulnerability management and security testing to improve the manage the overall cyber threat exposure.

  • Provide risk, operational and performance reporting on Cyber Defence, including reporting on key cyber security KPIs and ORIs.

  • Form a clear strategy and continuous improvement plan to enhance and improve the Operational Security service, ensuring a high level of service quality.

  • Overseeing security platforms that help protect and defend systems and networks against cybersecurity threats.

  • Leading threat exposure management including vulnerability management, security testing, purple teaming, supporting red teaming, and offensive security practices.

    Demonstrated experience managing information security operations or incident response in complex organizations with multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to remain calm, rational, and discreet under pressure.

  • Excellent understanding of planning and implementing technical IT security arrangements.

  • Familiarity with security technologies (e.g., FW/IPS/IDS/DDOS, EDR/MDR, DAST/SAST, SIEM & SOAR) and cloud security fundamentals.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including executive-level reporting.

  • Ability to establish and maintain trust with internal and external partners.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience identifying process improvement opportunities.

  • Familiarity with industry standards (eg OWASP, CIS, SANS Top 20, NIST, PCI DSS, ISO27001).

  • Expertise in network and systems security, TCP/IP networking, intrusion detection/prevention, and malware analysis.

  • Recognized security accreditation (e.g., CISSP, CISM) or relevant degree/master's qualification in Information Security.
